57 Jahre ist der Countrysänger Bad Blake mittlerweile alt, der einstiger Ruhm längst verblasst. Seine Musik lallt er nur noch durch Bars und Bowlinghallen. Erst als sein Manager Blake als Vorsänger für seinen einstigen Protegé, den mittlerweile zum Superstar aufgestiegenen Tommy Sweet, unterbringt, scheint es wieder ein bisschen aufwärts zu gehen. Auch privat läuft es für den notorischen Säufer besser, seit er sich in die rund 20 Jahre jüngere Journalistin Jean verguckt hat. Doch die Mutter des vierjährigen Buddy zögert erst, sich mit dem vierfach geschiedenen Altstar einzulassen. Dann kommt sie Blake trotzdem näher - wohl wissend, dass die Beziehung von Anfang an problembehaftet sein wird...
